About

Our team consists of award-winning creatives and journalists, who design, maintain and produce targeted websites and print materials that help our clients to communicate effectively with their customers.

The BowlesAssociates Team

Terry Bowles

After starting out with the Kent Evening Post, responsible for covering Gillingham FC, Terry thought he was “passing through” the city in 1973 when he accepted the chance to cover Notts County for the Nottingham Evening Post. Some 30 years later, he is firmly entrenched within the City, having worked closely with the sporting scene throughout that time. Has overseen the shift of BowlesAssociates from an editorial-led business into the fully-fledged communications agency it is today.

Sam Bowles

Sam studied art in Exeter before returning to Nottingham in 1998 and joining the agency. A strong believer in clean, uncomplicated communications strategies, Sam has worked across a wide variety of assignments including identities, advertising and publishing while with us. He's also built up a body of photographic work that includes book and magazine cover shoots, as well as commissions for the national press. An avid skier, Sam likes to think that in a parallel universe, he would have had a successful career in table tennis.

Simon Cleaves

A graduate of St Andrews University, Simon’s love of playing and watching sport meant that he jumped at the chance to join us and work closely in cricket and football. One of our senior writers working on publications and websites, Simon also project manages much of the work that goes through the agency, as well as organising office trips to Berlin, Madrid and Rome. As the tallest man in the office, he's also the first port of call when it comes to changing light bulbs.

Matt Halfpenny

Having written for both the Worksop Guardian and Nottingham Post newspapers, Matt was well placed to join our team and work on an expanding sports portfolio, alongside other editorial projects, both in print and online. A graduate of the University of Sheffield and keen amateur triathlete, he dreams of his beloved Mansfield Town returning to the Football League in the not-too-distant future.

Vicky Elwick

Having graduated in graphic design and photography, Vicky was delighted to make the move from her native Coventry and join our creative team. Her love of a good cup of tea has seen her slot straight in to the studio, where her passion for baking has also gone down well. As with her cupcakes, Vicky likes her design zesty and vibrant.

Claire Bicknell

After more than 10 years working on marketing and business development in the professional service sector, Claire felt it was time to strike out in a new direction, offering her expertise to help maximise our sports contracts. Claire likes to say she has a 'licence to lunch' and freely admits to being a great nag - something to which Sam Bowles would probably testify.

Jim Hindson, consultant editor

Once a professional cricketer, Jim spent six years playing for Nottinghamshire before taking up a career with the players’ body, the PCA. Jim works with us as a consultant editor on many of our sports titles - especially within cricket. The former deputy editor of All Out Cricket magazine, he currently works for The Cricketer.

Steve Sadler, contributing illustrator

After working for a number of years in telecommunications, Steve decided to take the plunge to gain qualifications in his overriding passion, creative design. An important cog in our creative wheel, he's now relocated to rural Leicestershire but continues to demonstrate his love for illustration across a wide range of our projects.
